GOBABIS: The body of a middle-aged woman was on Sunday morning discovered in Gobabis’ Single Quarters with multiple panga blows to her face and head, allegedly inflicted by her boyfriend.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was discovered in a pool of blood by a neighbour to the couple, who in turn alerted the police.

A blood-stained panga, believed to have been the murder weapon was also discovered at the scene.

According to the police at Gobabis, screams were allegedly heard during the late hours of the night emanating from the house where the couple lived.

Omaheke Police Commissioner, Josephat Abel has called on members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the arrest of the suspect, who is still at large.

Abel expressed concern with the increasing rate of passion killing in the country, noting that the police will not rest to ensure that all Namibian citizens feel safe.

The Police Commissioner said it is worrying that men do not seem to accept it when their relationships with their partners turn sour and make themselves guilty by taking other people’s lives.

“Innocent women are losing their lives every day at the hands of men and this need to stop. Such scenario cannot be tolerated any longer. If you make yourself guilty of such a crime, be rest assured that we will find you and you will be made to pay,” he noted.

Police investigation into the matter continues.
