GOBABIS: Gobabis residents, especially those residing in the Nossobville and Smallingerland residential areas, have had to do without electricity since Sunday, after electricity transformers supplying them with electricity broke down.
Irate residents told Nampa today that they have been forced to prepare food on open fires, and their children have been struggling to do their homework at night due to the absence of electricity.
The two transformers supply electricity to Nossobville and Smallingerland as well as parts of President Street in town.
The transformers were apparently blown out by lightning and ceased to work.
The Gobabis Municipality Chief Executive Officer, Efraim Dawids today confirmed that the situation is receiving the council’s immediate attention, saying it is expected to be resolved by tomorrow.
The transformers are expected to cost the municipality about N.dollars 700 000.
