GOBABIS: The Gobabis Town Council has donated sports kits to the Omaheke Police to allow it to partake in the National Police Sports Tournament slated for 27 August to 2 September 2012 at Mariental.
The donation comprises of 30 sports jerseys to be worn during the team’s participation in the various sport codes.
Handing over the donation on Friday, the Chairperson of the Gobabis town council Management Committee, Liberius Kalili, said the donation was meant as a goodwill gesture to the work of the police in the region.
“We are delighted to have the honoured to make such donation and we are sure that the Omaheke police will do us proud and return with medals as you have made us accustomed to,” he said.
Receiving the donation, Police Deputy Regional Commander, Marcellus Maritshane who will be leading the delegation to Mariental later this year, appealed for proper conduct and discipline from the participants during the games.
“As ambassadors of the Omaheke Police, we expect only the best behaviour and conduct from you during your participation. We trust that you will also bring back trophies home from your participation and make all of us proud,” he said.
The town council has also donated 51 blankets to senior citizens at the town – the bulk of which will be distributed at the Epako Old Age centre.
The local hospital’s TB Ward will also receive blankets, while patients in the hospital’s children ward will receive clothes as donation from the town council.
