GOBABIS: The Gobabis-Aminuis gravel road, which had in the past been blamed for unduly accidents due to its bad state, will soon be upgraded to bitumen standard.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba made this announcement during the official opening ceremony of the completed stretch of the Gobabis-Otjinene road in the Omaheke Region on Friday.
The C-22 road to Aminuis will be upgraded as part of the general upgrade of the Gobabis-Aranos road. Earthworks are expected to commence in mid-2013.
The Head of State said Government is fully committed to the development of rural areas in an effort to link such areas to larger economic centres.
“We are fully committed to developing every part of our country with special emphasis on rural development.
We are fully committed to ensuring that every citizen and every community enjoys the fruits of independence,” he said.
Although constant upgrading has been taking place on the road, Aminuis residents and those that frequent the road have been complaining of bad patches at some places along the road, which often leads to accidents during the rainy season.
Upgrade of the road to bitumen standard is expected to ease travel along it, and provide a better access for farmers to the region’s main economical hub of Gobabis.
