MUKWE: A 10 year-old girl was caught by a crocodile while her six year-old peer escaped with injures while swimming in the Okavango river on Sunday afternoon at the Diyana village situated some 190km east of Rundu.
According to police report issued to this reporter on Monday, the 10 year girl and her five other friends went to the Okavango River for swimming where after she was caught.
The body of the 10 year-old girl has not yet been recovered by Monday despite an intensive search by the Nature Conservation officials together with the Namibian Police Force.
The deceased has been identified as Theresia Mukuve, a resident of the Diyana village. Her next of kin were already informed and police have opened an inquest docket.
The six year-old girl, who escaped with injuries on her right leg, Kashi Mangundu, is currently admitted in the Andara Catholic Mission Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
In an unrelated incident, a 93 year-old woman died on the spot after she was bumped by a vehicle while crossing the road, at Matende village situated 40km west of Rundu Saturday afternoon.
Police report says that the driver of the Toyota Corolla was driving from west to east and bumped the female pensioner who was crossing the road.
The deceased was identified as Bibian Pezo Sihwata, a resident of the Matende village. Her next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.
