The Gauteng Provincial Legislature will through a Gala Dinner, Honour Women MPL’s who have contributed towards shaping the province and women empowerment through; law making, oversight, public participation and cooperative governance.
The International Women’s Day is commemorated on March 8 and it celebrates the social, political and economic achievements by Women. By recognising these distinguished women leaders on such a momentous occasion such as International Women’s day, it is anticipated to bring attention to the key contribution these women have made and are still making to communities around Gauteng as well as unearth ample opportunities for better advancements and equality for women.
The Hon. Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Ms Lindiwe Maseko will recognise individual efforts by women, who have served in the Province from 1994 to 2014.
This event will also highlight the Legislature’s efforts to embrace the 20 years of a democratic Parliament. Amongst the honourees will be the Premier of Gauteng Ms Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC for Education, Ms Barbara Creecy who have diligently and selflessly served the province since 1994. This will include a keynote address from Former Minister of Public Works, Ms Thoko Didiza amongst other important speakers and guests who will honour the event.
