Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs’ Disaster Management Centre will tomorrow launch the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR). The event, which will be held in Soweto, will focus on the physically and mentally challenged people in the community. It aims at reducing disaster vulnerability among people who live with some form of disabilities.
The IDDR finds its origin from the International Strategies for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), which has to do with total disaster reduction strategies adopted in annual themes by UN office for UNISDR.
