WINDHOEK: Galz and Goals is exactly what it says, Girls can play soccer too. Galz and Goals initiative is a partnership between the Namibian Football Association (NFA) The United Nations Children Fund ( UNICEF) and SCORE to empower girls aged 9-fifteen to live a healthy life through participation in football leagues and festivals. The Initiative is now officially sponsored by SPAR group Western Cape/Namibia.
This afternoon several girl soccer teams in the under 13 and 15 age groups respectively were awarded for their participation in the four month tournament that ended last week. Todays prize giving ceremony was attended by at least 412 children from various schools in the Khomas region.
For the under 13 group it was the girl soccer team from Emma Hoogenhout Primary school that took first place, with Khomas Primary school in the secondd A.I. Steenkamp in the third place while the under 15 girls from Moses van der Byl was the winners in their age group followed by a team called ‘Pumkins’ and Gammams Primary school ended third.
Captain Huezay Bezuidenhout for the winning under thirteen team told NAMPA she was very happy to win the trophy she also encouraged other girls to keep on trying even you don’t make it, there is always a next time she said.
But for now it is back to the school desks and books to prepare for the last few weeks of this years school before the next tournament kicking off early 2013.
