TSUMEB: Four people – a couple, their baby and a female relative – died on the spot after a vehicle in which they were traveling overturned several times on the Tsumeb-Oshivelo road Tuesday morning.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Anne-Marie Nainda told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that the accident happened at about at 09h00, some 40 kilometres south of the Oshivelo gate.
“Five people were in the car. Four died on the spot, while a 28-year-old man sustained serious injuries,” she said.
The injured man was admitted at the Tsumeb State Hospital, in a critical condition.
The Oshikoto Police Regional Commander said the driver must have lost control of the vehicle when one of the sedan’s tyres burst.
She said the vehicle veered off the road to the right, before it hit the railway line.
The car later rolled several times before finally landing on its roof.
A 42-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman as well as their baby-boy of less than 10 months and another woman aged 35 years, all died on the spot, said Nainda.
Their next of kin have not yet been informed.
A culpable homicide case CR. No. 89/10/2012 has been opened at the Tsumeb Police Station, in order to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
