FOOTBALL: NAMIBIA PLANS TO SPOIL HOPES OF HOSTS MOROCCO IN AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS

CASABLANCA, Namibia’s Brave Warriors plan to spoil the moment for host nation Morocco when they meet in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2018), the continental football tournament for home-based players on Saturday, says team coach Ricardo Mannetti.

Speaking to NAMPA after Namibia drew one-all against Zambia in their final Group B match on Monday night in Casablanca to finish runners up of the group, Mannetti said his players had matured and would be ready for Morocco.

“Having a packed stadium will be overwhelming for my players and they will enjoy themselves when they meet Morocco on Saturday. We are here to spoil the moment for them,” Mannetti said.

He added that his team had been undermined throughout the competition, which drives them to succeed.

“Most teams, I believe, do not know who Namibia is and we surprise them whenever we meet. We are not here to play bush football, we are here to play organized football, then progress to the next round of the competition.”

Namibia and Zambia both ended the group stage on seven points, but Zambia came out tops in the group on a better goal difference and will now face Group A runners-up Sudan in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
