OPUWO: The Head of Centre for the Opuwo Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Centre, Sau Kapata says that 110 participants in the first ever Kunene Regional Youth Enterprise Expo is expected at Khorixas Town in August this year.
Kapata was interviewed by Nampa on Friday on the activities planned for the Kunene Regional Youth Expo scheduled for 23-26 August this year with the theme “Stand up for Entrepreneurial Innovation”.
“We are currently giving out application to the youths from Kunene region that are interested in participating in the expo in different categories to reserve places for themselves,” said Kapata.
She said that applications have been sent out to all the six constituency offices for the youth to pick them up from there and apply.
“In Opuwo the application are at the Youth Office here and very few youth members came for them and none of those who collected them returned them to us for processing. I believe they are waiting to bring the application when it is close to the closing date,” added Kapata.
The applications to apply for the space at the Kunene Regional Youth Expo was distributed in the first week of July this year and the due date is on 03 August this year.
According to Kapata the Kunene Regional Youth Enterprise Expo is an initiative of the Kunene Regional Youth Forum and it is being funded by the National Youth Council (NYC).
The National Youth Council have provided N.dollars 20 000 to be used for the Kunene Regional Youth Expo.
“The Kunene Youth Forum has also received a donation from Namibia Port Authority (Namport) of N.dollar 38 000 in April this year to be used for the planned Youth Expo,” said Kapata. She said that the participants are very limited due to the financial implications.
According to Kapata the provision of accommodation and food to all participants is initially in the hands of the Youth Forum and given limited resources participants are also kept minimal. Categories of exhibitors are Food Processing, Tailoring, Arts and Crafts and Manufacturing.
It is expected from each of the six constituencies to bring one exhibitor in each category to the expo.
There would also be cultural performance at the expo of which each constituency is expected to bring the best youth cultural group to the expo to compete for the prices at the event.
The event would also be used to select Miss Youth Expo for the region, while the participants would also be given workshops on leadership skills and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Expectation is that the Minister of Youth, National Service Sport and Culture, Kazenambo Kazenambo would be the keynote speaker, while the Governor of Kunene Region, Josua //Hoebeb, NYC Executive Chairperson, Mandela Kapere and Youth Ambassador Lazarus Shiimi (Gazza) would all offer speeches at the event amongst other speakers.
