OTJIWARONGO: A 44-year-old farm worker from the Hochfeld area died on Sunday after his head was smashed with an old vehicle’s tyre during a fight which broke out between him and another farm worker at farm Sterkfontein.
Farm Sterkfontein is situated over 290 kilomtres south of Otjiwarongo in the Hochfeld area of the Otjozondjupa Region.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations’ Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Nampa on Sunday that Benjamin Rondia’s head was hit with an old tyre at about 04h00 today.
“He died on the spot due to a wound inflicted on his head. The wound was visible at some distance, wide-open and deep,” explained Khairabeb.
A 42-year-old man linked to his death was apprehended by NamPol members at the same farm on Sunday.
The suspect also sustained injuries on his body.
The police had to rush him to the Okondjatu State Medical Clinic, where he was treated.
It is alleged that on 06 October this year, the deceased attempted to have sexual intercourse with one of the suspect’s daughters, a 15-year-old school girl at Farm Sterkfontein.
Khairabeb said at unknown time between Saturday and Sunday morning, the deceased travelled from Pris Hoek commercial farm where he worked as a farm labourer, situated some 40 kilometres from Sterkfontein, to where the minor girl lived with her family.
As the deceased is not from Sterkfontein, he was easily spotted by neighbours, who alerted the father of the girl.
“The father of the school girl then confronted the deceased, and a hot quarrel broke out between them before a physical fight, which caused the death of Rondia,” said Khairabeb.
The deceased’s next of kin have already been informed.
