WINDHOEK: A family of seven was left homeless and without any earthly possessions after a fire destroyed their shack on Friday evening.
Home owner Kallie Kharuxab told Nampa him and his family were at a relative’s house in Otjomuise when they heard that their dwelling in Wanaheda was on fire.
Upon their arrival around 23h00, they found the Windhoek Emergency Services busy extinguishing the last flames in the shack.
The speedy response of the neighbours prevented the fire spreading to adjacent buildings, while the Fire Brigade were finding their way to the scene.
Devastated by the loss, Kharuxab said his whole family must now start from scratch as the flames did not spare anything, even his five-month-old baby has nothing left, while his four school-going children lost their uniforms and books in the fire.
Although the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by the Fire Brigade and the Namibian Police, Kharuxub said he suspects arson as he recently opened a criminal case against the very same man whom he believes set the shack on fire.
Luckily, no one was injured.
