KHARTOUM, Sudan, November 16, 2015
The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan announced the launching of the seventh edition of the European Film Festival on Thursday 19th November 2015. This year the festival brings 17 films from 15 countries including: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the European Union.
Also, the festival provides a corner for Sudan were two films will be shown. The screenings will be from 20-30 November at 07:30pm at the European cultural centers: Goethe Institute, British Council and Institut Francais. The festival is sponsored by DAL Group, DAL Food and Capital Radio 91.6. The opening screening which will be held at the Amphitheatre of the Khartoum International Community Schools will screen the Italian movie Life is Beautiful or La vita è bella.
The opening film tells a story of an Italian family affected by the WWII. Life is Beautiful was shown at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to win the Grand Prix. At the 71st Academy Awards, the film won awards for Best Music, Original Dramatic Score, and Best Foreign Language Film, with Benigni winning Best Actor for his role.
The European Film Festival is considered one of the major cinematic events in Sudan and has shown more than 90 films for 120,000 Sudanese and international audience.
