WINDHOEK: Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma has called on the SPYL to be vigilant and not allow to be misled by lies and deceit by those who want to unseat the Swapo-Party government.
“Those people want to install a puppet regime in Namibia and promote the selfish economic interests of imperialists,” said Nujoma when he officially opened the Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Central Committee meeting here on Saturday.
He said the enemy of Namibia will not appreciate the peace and stability that all Namibians enjoy today.
“They will always try to cause hatred, division and disunity among the leadership and rank and file of Swapo in order to reverse the gains of our hard-won freedom and independence,” said Nujoma to a thunder of ululation and applause from the youth leaders.
He said the enemy will also try to manipulate the system with a view to create chaos and anarchy to enable them to gain access to the abundant natural resources, because they are now bankrupt and therefore look to Africa for survival.
“Swapo Party believes in the sovereignty of Namibia as an independent country with its resources under the control of Namibians themselves,” he stated.
Nujoma told the gathering that as modern economic freedom fighters, the young ones must take up arms, if need be, to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the airspace of the entire African continent and its natural resources.
“The youth of Africa must rise to the occasion and proclaim loudly and proudly that Africa must be free forever and that the resources of Africa belong to Africans,” he stated.
He then encouraged the SPYL members to have deep understanding of current conditions in the country, a clear vision of the future and the ability to consider issues and act with tact.
“As leaders, you must also be both politically astute and economically informed in order to address the aspirations and the needs of your fellow youth,” said Nujoma.
He then encouraged the youth leaders to always promote inner-party discipline and national unity as well as patriotism and solidarity among themselves and the rank and file in order to ensure unity and cohesion in the Swapo Party.
“Preserve the peace and stability that we are enjoying today,” he advised the youth leaders.
About 50 members of SPYL Central Committee are attending the meeting that ends on Sunday.
