WINDHOEK: To transform the country’s economy, organisations, ministries and agencies must rely on employees as motive of progress and transformation, the Prime Minister said on Tuesday.
Nahas Angula further said that any change and transformation to happen in an organisation will do so through human beings.
He was speaking during the Institute for People Management (IPM) Namibia’s 2012 Awards in the capital.
‘Sometimes we deal with human beings in terms of numbers, and we group them like police officers, clerks and teachers, among others. But we forget that these are individuals who bring changes in their individuality. We have to recognise them as individuals, not as a group,’ he advised.
‘If we really want people to change the character of the organisation, we must recognise them as individuals and appreciate their efforts,’ said Angula, adding that they have to promote role-models, as they do wonders not because of the rewards they receive, but because of the passion they have towards what they are doing.
Only 25 per cent of civil servants make a difference in their organisations, the rest are routine-bound due to a lack of passion, Angula observed.
‘In managing people, we should always try to discover the personality behind an employee.
Some employees are lone rangers who do not want to step on other persons’ toes, while others are team-builders. We have to appreciate everybody accordingly,’ he added.
Meanwhile, the IPM 2012 Chief Executive Officer (CEO)and Managing Director (MD) award went to Olthaver and List (O&L)Executive Chairman Sven Thieme, while the IPM HR Business Partner of the Year Award went to Linda Shaanika of the Motor-Vehicle Accident Fund and the IPM HR Director of the year Award went to O&L Human Capital Manager Berthold Mukuaima.
