ECONOMY MINISTER MEETS WORLD BANK VICE PRESIDENT, MIGA OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON

Minister of Economy and Trade, Mansour Bteish, currently on an official visit to Washington, met with World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ferid Belhaj, and other ranking officials.

The meeting had been an occasion to laud the Lebanese government’s positive indicator in the wake of the electricity plan’s approval, which has consequently increased the international community’s confidence in the seriousness of reforms in Lebanon.

The World Bank expressed its readiness to support Lebanon amid this stage, and discussed the possibility of giving Lebanon access to soft loans, particularly in the service of health education, and infrastructure. Long-term loans to introduce technology into school curricula have also been discussed.

Furthermore, the meeting extensively debated a $400 million loan that the Lebanese delegation insisted would contribute to creating jobs opportunities for Lebanese nationals.

Separately, Bteish met with MIGA officials and discussed with them the means to invest in dangerous and challenging environments.
