_: The provision of infrastructure to needy schools, is gaining a momentum in the Eastern Cape province as the education MEC, MandlaMakupula will today the 20th of August be turning a sod in Klipfontein, outside Port Alfred at 10h00.

This sod turning event is meant to precede the construction of a school in this area as a majority of learning around here are currently studying either in Port Alfred, Marselle and or Alexandria townships. The construction of this state of the art school will mean an end to the long distances travelled by these learners, which at time put them in danger as they cross the busy R72 road.

The department’s assertiveness on the need of these communities has prompted the MEC to commit the department in this financial year for the construction of this school. Additionally, this accelerated program of action is meant to help communities in need of schools.

Subsequently, to the sod turning, the MEC will meet the education stakeholders of this municipality as part of strengthening the relations and to get their views on the matters affecting the delivery of education in their locality.

Additionally, the MEC is also scheduled to meet local businesses as part of mobilising their support for all learners towards the examination period. The meeting would focus on his central call to everyone of: “adopting extra-ordinary measures to create a sense of urgency across the whole education system while preparing a conducive teaching and learning condition for our children.”

The MEC also calls upon all businesses and education interested people either private and or public to partner with him in turning around the education of this province.
