DTA YL calls for equal representation in party

WINDHOEK: Newly-elected DTA of Namibia Youth League (YL) Secretary-General (SG) Benson Katjirijova has promised that he will make sure during his reign that the youth league has equal representation in the party at all levels.

Katjirijova, who will be leading the YL for the next five years, made the remarks in a statement availed to Nampa on Tuesday.

He was elected during the DTA YL’s fourth National Congress on Saturday in Oshakakti.

“The DTA YL will also work in close collaboration with the mother body to transform the DTA into a real competitive political organisation that will make the Swapo Party run for its money, come the 2014 elections,” he enthused.

Katjirijova noted that the ruling Swapo Party should be warned that the DTA Youth will penetrate every sector and community where the youth of Namibia is, and that it will also recruit new members to be part of a family where their voices will be heard and their challenges addressed.

He then called on DTA members who deserted the party to join Swapo, the ‘fly-by-night and the radical racially designated parties’, to come back to the DTA and join the fight for real democracy and respect for human rights.

“The youth of Namibia should learn to demand for their rights, and not beg for it,” Katjirijova said.

The DTA YL SG also promised to address unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse, gender-based violence against the youth as well as maternal, child health and the unequal distribution of wealth in the country.

As the youth league, they will also join the rest of the country in fighting corruption, and support the trade unions in their quest to find answers regarding the N.dollars 660 million in taxpayers’ money that went missing at the Government Institutions’ Pension Fund (GIPF).

“The time for transformation and change for the DTA YL has come,” proclaimed the new DTA YL SG.
