SWAKOPMUND: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 26-year-old man on Thursday in the DRC informal settlement here.
Acting Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu told Nampa on Sunday that the victim was on her way home from the Single Quarters in the Mondesa residential area of the town when the incident occurred.
“She met the suspect at a local bar on her way from Mondesa to the DRC. He accompanied her home and along the way assaulted and threatened her with a screw driver.
When they reached her house, he pulled her inside and allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim against her will,” he said.
The suspect is still at large, and police investigations continue.
In other crime news, an armed robbery took place in Usakos between 01h00 and 02h00 Friday, leaving a local businesswoman without N.dollars 57 000.
According to NamPol, the incident took place at the woman’s house in the Erongosig location of the town.
“Three suspects entered the house and took the money which was in the victims’ handbag. In addition, the alleged suspects took a laptop and the victim’s car,” said Iikuyu.
He told Nampa that the occupants of the house were threatened by the alleged robbers with pistols.
The car was later abandoned in a nearby street.
No arrests were made, and NamPol is still investigating the matter.
In a separate incident, a 43-year-old man was found hanging on a belt from the roof of his shack in the Mondesa residential area late Saturday evening.
“We do not suspect any foul play. There was also no note left behind to explain the occurrence,” Iikuyu said.
