Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Fragogiannis to participate in the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (Doha, 4-9.3.2023)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis will travel to Doha on Saturday, March 4, 2023, to represent the Prime Minister at the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs), to be held from March 4 to March 9, 2023.

The Deputy Minister will address the Plenary Session of the Conference and will also participate in two thematic roundtables on the following topics: a) Addressing climate change and supporting the environment and b) Leveraging the power of science, technology, and innovation for the sustainable development of LDCs.

It is noted that the UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries is held every decade, with the main objective of exchanging views among UN member countries on how to accelerate these countries’ development. The aim of this year’s conference is to adopt a Program of Action for the period 2023-2031, including concrete commitments consistent with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
On his trip to Doha, Deputy Minister K. Fragogiannis will be accompanied by the Special Envoy for the support of Greece’s candidacy for election to the United Nations Security Council, as a non-permanent member, for the 2025-26 term, Ambassador Maria Theofili. The aim is to hold meetings with the Heads of Delegations of the LDCs participating in the Conference, in order to promote the Greek candidacy.
