_: Early last year, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has called on South Africans to get behind the Springboks ahead of the World Cup, and the athletes preparing for the All Africa Games, by flying the flag on Magnificent Fridays. Now it is time to get behind the South African Paralympic team.
With the Olympic Games in London completed, the next chapter in our sport is the Paralympic games also hosted in London. To get behind our paralympians, Community Sport will be hosting Magnificent Friday on 24 August 2012 in Arlington – Leratswana Stadium.
A big walk will start at 9h00 at the entrance of Leratswana Township. The official opening of the day’s activities will start at 10h00 inside the stadium. The community will be invited to join us on the playing grounds for a day of fun. The Director of Community sport will address the crowd on the purpose of the day. After that the community will be engaged in soccer, netball and rugby matches.
The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is looking forward to a truly Magnificent Friday, getting behind the South African Paralympic team in their quest to bring home gold.
