ABUJA: THE Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro, has appealed to striking resident doctors and interns in military hospitals nationwide to return to the service.
The doctors on Monday embarked on a strike to protest the alleged non-payment of their salaries.
“I appeal to all resident doctors and interns in our Military Hospitals nationwide to remain calm and return to the service of our nation and humanity,” the minister said.
According to the minister, concerted efforts were in process to ensure all their outstanding salaries and allowances were paid as soon as possible.
He sympathized with the affected medical personnel.
“I empathise with the affected medical personnel. Our response to their demands will be sure and swift. God bless our medical personnel and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
It was reported that the striking doctors embarked on the industrial
action after their two-week strike notice was allegedly disregarded by the authorities, who refused to pay their salaries since their appointments six months ago.
