TSUMEB: The names of the people who died in a motor-vehicle accident between Tsumeb and Oshivelo on Tuesday morning, have been released.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Anne-Marie Nainda told Nampa on Wednesday that three adults and a baby boy of less than 10 months died on the spot after the sedan vehicle they were travelling in overturned and rolled several times on the road between Tsumeb and the Oshivelo gate. “The accident happened about 40 kilometres from Tsumeb to Oshivelo at about 09h00,” she said.
The deceased have been identified as Mikael Niingo Belema, 42, who was driving the vehicle; 38-year-old Ana Belema; Laina Kamana Iipinge, 35; and the baby boy whose age is unknown at this stage. The 28-year-old Austin Kawana, who was a passenger in the same vehicle, sustained serious injuries.
Kawana was admitted to the Tsumeb State Hospital in a critical condition before he was flown to Windhoek’s Katutura State Hospital on Tuesday evening. “We received information on Wednesday morning that Kawana died as well in the Katutura State Hospital on Tuesday night,” stated Nainda.
All the deceased’s relatives have been informed. The Oshikoto police commander suspects that a right front tyre of the vehicle burst, forcing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
She said the vehicle pulled off the road with force to the right side before it hit a railway line. Later on, it rolled several times before landing on its roof.
