Darian welcomes Romanian Ambassador, UNIFIL Commander

NNA – Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdullatif Darian on Thursday met at Dar-al-Fatwa with Romanian Ambassador to Lebanon, Victor Mircea, in presence of the Secretary General of the National Islamic-Christian Dialogue Committee, Mohammad Sammak.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, the diplomat said that talks featured high on the internal situation in Lebanon as well as on the current juncture prevailing in the broader Arab region.

“The most important topic we discussed was dialogue. Today, it was clear to me that Dar-al-Fatwa was the home of hope which pays a key role in anchoring stability in Lebanon and the region,” he added.

“We also tackled the bilateral relations between Lebanon and Romania, especially that next year, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Lebanese-Romanian ties and it will be an occasion to bolster these relations on the cultural, economic and political level,” he concluded.

The Mufti later welcomed the General Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Luciano Portolano, who confirmed on emerging that the situation in south the country was “calm” and “excellent.”

“We lengthily discussed the factors that contribute to keeping on calm and peace in the south, including the UNIFIL assuming its mission as stipulated in UN resolution 1701,” Portolano said.

He did not fail to add to the factors that assistance of the Lebanese state, namely that of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

“In addition, there is the excellent and exceptional relation between the southerners and the UNIFIL command,” he concluded.
