THE Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) called for investigations into reports Sun City security guards stripped female workers and guests naked during searches that followed alleged theft at some hotel rooms.
This is the latest incident in a series of problems afflicting the resort centre in the North West.
COSATU Provincial Secretary, Solly Phetoe, called on all women at Sun City and those guests who were subjected to the searches to open a case at the police station and demand a full investigation on the matter.
“We call on workers to be united and expose the criminal elements and fight against these criminal activities that are happening every year and nothing is done,” Phetoe said.
He said COSATU was giving Sun International’s board of directors and government until Tuesday to act against the security company and give a full commitment to protect all workers, in particular women, and the guests.
“Or we will take legal action or a protest action and will call for the police to remove those security officers, by force if necessary, or we will close the main gate.”
The COSATU official added the organisation was also calling on the provincial government to investigate ways of taking back the Sun City resort to be under government control, so that it could benefit the people of the North West and uplift the economy of the province.
“Sun City has a history of stripping women and searching them in their private parts, in most cases by white racist me from the security company. Today Sun City and Sun International do not create any jobs or improve the economy of the North West.”
