KEETMANSHOOP: Keetmanshoop’s Correctional Services’ volleyball A team walked away with N.dollars 700 as winners of the one-day tournament held here on Saturday.
The Correctional Services’ directorate falls under the Ministry of Prisons and Correctional Services.
The local Correctional Services’ A team defeated the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) team by three sets to one in the final game in the Suiderlig High School hall.
NamPol received N.dollars 350 as runners-up, and the Correctional Services’ B team got N.dollars 200 for third place. Six local volleyball teams from the Ministries of Education; Justice; Safety and Security, and the Prisons’ Directorate participated.
Correctional Services’ sports officer in Keetmanshoop, Emil Goliath told Nampa that he plans to host the tournament annually with bigger cash prizes, should he get some sponsorships.
“I want to make it an annual event, where we shall also invite teams from other towns such as Mariental,” he noted.
Goliath said it is usually only teams from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and the Correctional Services that come together and play. However, more teams showed interest during Saturday’s event, and that is encouraging.
“We will try to secure sponsorships so that next year, we can have a bigger and better tournament,” he continued.
This year’s tournament was sponsored by the Correctional Services with about N.dollars 1 500, while refreshments were provided by the Namibia Beverages company through its Coca-Cola brand, as well as N.dollars 200 from Hektas Fashion shop.
