GOBABIS: Construction on the second phase of the Gobabis-Otjinene-Grootfontein road, which is expected to link the Trans-Kalahari and Trans-Caprivi Highways, will start soon.
This was confirmed to Nampa yesterday by the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Roads Authority, Conrad Lutombi on the side-lines of the official opening of the Gobabis weighbridge.
Lutombi said considerable progress has been made to lay the groundwork for the project, which will involve the upgrading of an existing gravel road to bitumen standard.
The process of compiling and finalising tender documents is expected to be completed by October this year, after which tenders could be out by latest December 2013.
The first phase of the project was completed in September 2012 and involved the upgrading to bitumen standard of a 157 kilometre (km) stretch of road between Gobabis and Otjinene at a cost of about N.dollars 400 million.
The road ends a mere three kilometres before Otjinene.
