CLEAN SWEEP BY AFRICAN RUNNERS AT MAYBANK BALI MARATHON

BALI, Indonesia, It was a clean sweep by runners from Kenya and Ethiopia, at the Maybank Bali Marathon (MBM) 2017, which attracted 9,000 runners from 44 countries.

In the Full Marathon Open category, Henry Kiprotich, 29, from Kenya, scored a time of 2:19:17, making him champion in the MBM, with a cash prize of 189 million Rupiah (about USD13,261).

The women’s title winner was Rumokol Chepkanan, 33, also from Kenya, with a time of 2:38:38. She won the same amount of cash prize.

“I was here in 2015 and won as well. The new route is nicer, more turnings and easier,” said Chepkanan at a press conference, after the prize-giving ceremony, here, today.

The new route includes the Klungkung residential area, on the island, compared with just Gianyar in the previous runs.

Meanwhile, Kiprotich felt that he could have had better timing, if the last three km to the finishing line was kept clear of people.
