JOHANNESBURG, Nov 19 (NNN-SABC) — The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frans Matlala, has been suspended with immediate effect pending an investigation, the Board said in a statement here Wednesday.
The SABC’s Group Executive for News and Current Affairs, Jimi Matthews, will be acting Group CEO during this time.
Matlala was appointed as Group CEO of the public broadcaster in July this year while Matthews had been acting in the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO) following a disciplinary inquiry into COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
The disciplinary inquiry into Motsoeneng was postponed the end of last month for 15 days, by which time the parties are expected to map out a timetable for the continuation of the hearing.
Motsoeneng opposed the SABC’s request for a postponement.
The SABC said it needed time to access the documents that the Public Protector used to come to her findings in the report entitled “When governance and ethics fail”. — NNN-SABC
