YINSU: The State has withdrawn the case of a mother and daughter who allegedly buried the girl’s aborted baby in the backyard of their house here.
The 14-year-old girl is a Grade Nine learner at the Yinsu Combined School, situated some 150km west of Rundu.
She was apparently six months’ pregnant when she allegedly aborted the baby girl on 30 August this year.
The two were arrested on 09 September this year.
The mother apparently forced her daughter to drink some traditional herbs locally known as ‘Ndimbwilisa’, well-known for terminating pregnancies.
Kavango Regional Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Wednesday that the case against the learner and her mother was withdrawn on 10 September to allow the police to conduct further investigations.
He said once investigations are done, the docket will then be submitted to the Prosecutor-General for a decision.
The mother apparently said she wanted her daughter’s pregnancy terminated so that her education could not be disrupted.
