Cannon, Medina complete lineup for SESDO round of 16

The Serekunda-based outfits, Cannon FC and Tallinding-based Medina FC became the latest teams to complete the lineup for the Serekunda East round of 16 league tournament on Monday.

Cannon FC beat Culture 1-0 while Medina drew one all with Bantaba FC, enough to earn them a place in the next stage of the tournament.

Cannon FC’s lone goal win over Culture was enough to qualify them to the next stage after booking second place with 5 points behind Zurich FC, who are with 10 points in group C. Matt Ceesay’s 8th minute strike was the only goal in the game during their final group C fixtures

Culture FC who were with 4 points needed only a draw in the game to qualify to the next round but Cannon FC proved too strong and converted their only chance in the game to earn them the maximum points.

In the late kickoff, Medina drew 1-1 with Bantaba in their final group E encounter. Momodou Jabang scored for Medina in the 23rd minute, while Lamin Jammeh equalised for Bantaba in the 57th minute.

The draw favours the Medina side as they book place in the next round with 5 points behind Future Stars, who also leveled points with them but top with goal difference. Bantaba only needed to win and progress to the next stage of the competition.

Speaking in an interview with Observer Sports, the head coach of Medina FC, Sanna Darboe, expressed satisfaction with the draw adding that though they drew with Bantaba, it was not an easy game.

He said Bantaba has a complete team which can upset any of their opponents, noting that the expectation was very high on the side of Bantaba.
