Pretoria: The Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Reginah Mhaule, has urged parents and Grade 12 learners, who will require bursaries to further their studies in institutions of higher learning in 2013 to apply before the end of this week.
Mhaule said the department has experienced instances in the past, where learners who passed their Grade 12 outstandingly could not be accepted in universities because they did not apply on time or did not have the financial means to do so, even though government has made this possible.
“It is in that context that we must constantly remind our communities of the closing dates so that they in turn can react responsibly. I request every member of our community to make it his /her own obligation to advice deserving Grade 12 learners to apply for bursaries on time,” said MEC Mhaule.
Learners are encouraged to apply for the following fields of study: Agricultural Sciences, Communication & Information Technology, Economics, Finance & Information Technology, Education, Health Sciences, Engineering and Construction, Transport, Safety & Security and Social Sciences.
The application process started on 1 August and will proceed until 30 September 2012.
Application forms are obtainable in all departments, regional offices and district offices including secondary schools.
They can also be obtained from the departmental website: www.mpumalanga.gov.za/education.
For any further enquiries and assistance in completing the application form, learners can contact the bursary office at Building 5, Riverside Government Complex, Nelspruit, telephone number ( 013)-766 5048/ 5405 / 5351.
