Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Infrastructure Initiates Tree Planting Campaign in Yimdi

OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant environmental initiative, the Ministry of Infrastructure, led by Secretary General Ismaël Zebret, planted 100 trees in Yimdi, a community on the western outskirts of Ouagadougou, aiming to bolster local plant cover and combat environmental degradation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tree planting event took place at the health and social promotion center and the Yimdi public primary school. The species planted primarily included cashew trees, chosen for their adaptability and ecological benefits. The event saw participation from both Ministry staff and members of the local community, emphasizing a collective effort toward environmental conservation.

During the event, Secretary General Ismaël Zebret highlighted the critical need for proactive measures against the degradation of natural resources. He emphasized the vital roles of plant cover in climate regulation, soil protection, and biodiversity conservation, indicating that these efforts are essential components of the broader environmental strategy of Burkina Faso.

The tree planting campaign is part of a government-wide initiative to restore plant cover across the country, noted Commander Amadou Sérémé of Water and Forests. This initiative marks a pivotal step in the nation’s ongoing battle for environmental preservation, aligning with global environmental sustainability goals.
