Breaking UPDATE: Detectives make third arrest after alleged attempted murder at pub

TWO men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left seriously injured following an incident at a Southampton pub.

Police were called to an incident near The Angel Pub, in Palmerston Road, at about 2.20am yesterday.

A 48-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries head and hand injuries.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody and a 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police have now revealed that a 49-year-old has been detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The Daily Echo could not contact the pub but a message posted on social media said it will be closed “until further notice”.

Jo Sage, 81, who lives on South Front road near the pub, said: “I’m shocked to hear something like this has happened in the community.

“I live very close by and I don’t walk through the park anyway and I certainly won’t do now.

“I’ve lived in the city for over 20 years but I’ve never seen or heard anything like this.”

A 26-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody and police now say a 34-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Rebecca Leach, 22, who lives in Cossack Green, behind the pub, said:
“I was up until around 3am and I didn’t hear anything.

“Usually they all leave at about 2 in the morning and they can be quite loud, especially on a Saturday night.

“Last night though there was nothing out of the ordinary – I have my windows open but still didn’t see or hear anything”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
