Bougouriba Education Authorities Address School Dropout Concerns After First Term Review

Bougouriba: The Provincial Directorate of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training (DPESFPT) of Bougouriba convened its second Management Council meeting in Diebougou to assess the first quarter of the 2025-2026 academic year and strategize future directives. Chaired by provincial director Abdoulaye Sawadogo, the meeting included school principals and social partners, aiming to tackle educational challenges and improve student success.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the gathering occurred on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Diebougou town hall. Mr. Sawadogo opened the meeting by acknowledging the dedication of teaching staff and social partners, including unions and school councils, despite challenges faced. He stressed that the ultimate goal is student achievement.

The first quarter data revealed that Bougouriba hosts 31 educational institutions, comprising 10,349 students, with a nearly equal gender distribution of 5,092 girls and 5,257 boys. However, the dropout rate, with 178 students leaving school-81 girls and 97 boys-was a major concern. Participants emphasized the need to investigate the dropout causes and develop solutions.

The province reported a success rate of 60.67%, with 62.27% at post-primary and 52% at secondary levels. Department heads presented their reports, which led to discussions about sector-specific issues. Financial, infrastructural, and human resource challenges were highlighted, compounded by insufficient support from some school councils.

The meeting concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the provincial education system's performance, focusing on collaboration and effective problem-solving strategies.
