MUKWE: The body of a 10-year-old girl who was killed by a crocodile in the Kavango River last Sunday, has still not been found.
A six-year-old girl escaped the attack with injuries. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the Diyana village, situated some 190 kilometres east of Rundu.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations’ Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Thursday that the remains of the minor girl are still missing, despite an intensive ongoing search by Nature Conservation officials from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the police.
The girls were part of a group of five children who had been swimming in the river when they were attacked by the crocodile.
The deceased has been identified as Theresia Mukuve, a resident of Diyana village.
Her next of kin have been informed, and the police have opened an inquest docket into the matter.
The six year-old girl, Kashi Mangundu, escaped with injuries on her right leg, and is currently being treated in the Andara Catholic Mission Hospital.
