Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday launched the automated and online portal of the Registrar General’s Department to enhance business registration processes.
He said the e-Certificate and e-Payment system would facilitate the registration of businesses and prevent the long delays associated with business registration.
He, therefore, urged the Management and Staff of the Department to adopt innovative approaches, in order to maximise revenue for the government and ensure customer satisfaction.
At the launch of the e-Registration System at the Banquet Hall, State House, in Accra, Vice President Bawumia described the system as the “starting point to make Ghana the most business-friendly nation in Africa.”
The e-Registration system reform is intended to reduce the time and cost of business registration and ensure an appropriate business registration and filing regime.
“I, therefore, urge you to intensify your stakeholder engagement programmes through the use of all available channels, including print and social media, to build consensus and enhance your revenue operations and boost revenue collection,” he said.
During a surprise visit to the Registrar General’s Department on January 18, 2017, the Vice President called on Management to improve the time for registering businesses and expedite action on the online business registration processes in view of the many complaints of delays from the public.
Vice President Bawumia said information and communication technology (ICT) is critical in the 21st Century and gave the assurance that Ghana would leverage on technology to effect digital transformation.
“The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration has embraced this digital transformation and will lend his support to ensure the smooth operation of this process for improved customer satisfaction.
“The importance of ICT cannot be over emphasised in this 21st Century and Ghana will leap frog other countries and catch up with the rest of the world,” he said.
Vice President Bawumia also entreated Management of the Department to brainstorm and adopt innovative revenue enhancing strategies to raise the level of compliance and transparency in the Ghanaian business registration system.
The automated business processes would reduce the human interface and turnaround time associated with registration.
The e-Registration portal makes use of the Tax Identification Number to distinguish between other portal users whilst the e-Certificate has been designed to provide flexibility, transparency and accountability for businesses.
