NNA – Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil on Wednesday welcomed at his office in the Minister a delegation of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries, accompanied by European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Angelina Eichhorst.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, the Delegation’s Head, Marisa Matias, indicated that their visit aimed to bolster the existing good relations between the European Union and Lebanon, “that is considered an important partner of the EU and its institutions.”
“It is important for us to be here to have a closer look on the tragic condition of the Syrian refugees. We already know the tremendous effort Lebanon is exerting as the sole country that is hosting the biggest number of refugees,” she said.
“Our presence here is not confined to the humanitarian goal but also for a political one, in order to enhance ties that connect us to the different elements and institutions,” she added.
“During our visit, we will exchange viewpoints,” she continued.
“During our meeting with Minister Bassil, we discussed the common goals and the situation in the region, in addition to the European neighborhood policy which includes the countries of the Middle East and North Africa,” she pointed out.
Separately, Bassil met today with the Ambassadors of Belarus, Italy, and Russia.
