Bassil summons P5 representatives, confirms Lebanon full commitment to 1701

NNA – Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, on Tuesday summoned the representatives of the five permanents member states at the United Nations’ Security Council, on the eve of the UNSC vote on a resolution to extend the UNIFIL mandate.

The meeting comes in order to confirm Lebanon’s unwavering position as to the full commitment to UNSC resolution 1701, and its high appreciation of the crucial role assumed by the UNIFIL, in collaboration with the Lebanese Armed Forces, in anchoring stability in south Lebanon, “something that highlights the obligation to technically extend the UNIFIL mandate.”

The summoned delegation included Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, US Charge d’affaires Edward White, French ChargĂ© d’affaires Arnaud Pichot, British Charge d’Affaires Benjamin Wastinage, and Johan Peleman, representing the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag.
