PRETORIA, The African Union (AU) has opened this year’s process of recruiting Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC) from all its member states across the continent.
The AU-YVC, established in 2010, is a continental development programme which recruits and works with youth volunteers from the continent to enhance the status of young people as key actors in Africa’s development targets and goals.
The AU-YVC also aims to deepen youth participation in policy development. It wants young people to get involved in the design and implementation of interventions which will help to realise the AU vision of “The Africa we want”.
The programme brings people together to share skills, knowledge, creativity and learning to build a more integrated Africa and, by default, strengthen Africa’s relevance in the globalised world.
AU Youth Volunteers will serve primarily the education, health and HIV/AIDS, peace and security, information communication technology, business and youth entrepreneurship, agriculture and environment sectors.
