KEETMANSHOOP: The efforts by the Karas Regional Council (KRC) to discharge their Deputy Director of Finance Johannes Shonena who is still on probation failed as one signature is missing.
The council requested the Public Service Commission (PSC) for approval to have Shonena discharged as he allegedly have a pending fraud case from his previous job as an Accountant at Ohangwena Regional Council.
Contacted for comments on the matter, Chairperson of the KRC Jan Scholtz said he is aware of the story but added that the decision was not discussed with the council.
He noted that he refuse to give his signature as he was not informed about the matter before hand.
Council was not informed about that story that’s why it is not signed.
Scholtz could also not say what should be done for the process to continue.
Correspondences between PSC and council in Nampa possession indicate that the PSC approved the request to discharge Shonena.
A memorandum directed to the KRC management committee informing them about the decision to discharge Shonena was signed by Chief Regional Officer Saul Kahuika.
“Information on his application form for employment did not reveal that he has any pending criminal cases against him. In fact he indicated “NO” meaning there was no case pending against him. Therefore KRC is of the opinion that he had deliberately misled the council and the PSC because the case is ongoing since 2009,” the memorandum reads.
Approached for comments on Monday Kahuika said he does not know anything about the matter thus he will not comment.
Shonena also said so far he is not officially informed about the decision to have him discharged but he heard the story in the council corridors.
