Answer – VP/HR – civilian attack in Juba by government forces – E-006310/2016

On 20 September 2016, the High Representative issued a Declaration on behalf of the EU concerning South Sudan condemning the violence in July 2016, in which hundreds lost their lives and atrocious acts of sexual violence were committed.

The EU underlined that those responsible for these acts must be brought to justice. The EU called for investigations to be opened into all crimes committed during the July fighting with a view to the prosecution of those responsible. In this context, the EU reiterated its call for the rapid establishment of the Hybrid Court for South Sudan.
