Women parliamentarians attending the 33rd Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) conference have agreed that to achieve their economic independence, legislative intervention is needed.
Discussions have been held at the CWP, which took place as a prelude to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), on how the informal economy and entrepreneurship should be dealt with for the advancement of women throughout the world. A press conference will be held tomorrow to bring to light some of the key issues that have been addressed during the CWP.
The press conference will also include the much anticipated announcement of the CWP election results. The newly elected chairperson of the CWP will present a summary of deliberations and highlight key issues that have been addressed by women from commonwealth parliaments and legislatures.
The president of the CPA, Mr Mninwa Mahlangu, President of the CWP, Ms Thapelo Chiloane and Secretary General of the CPA, Dr William Shija are expected to attend the briefing so as to outline other key issues relating to the conference.
