IWNHDOEK: Air Namibia will soon fly direct to Nigeria, after the Nigerian national airline signed an agreement with the Namibian national airline early this year.
Very soon, Namibian carrier is to start direct flights between Namibia and Nigeria, Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia Biodun Nathaniel Olorunfemi announced on Monday during the one-day business seminar between Namibia and Nigerian businesses under way in Windhoek.
Not many African airlines can boast of direct flights to Namibia, and Nigerians and other travellers from other African countries had to go through either Accra, Ghana or South Africa to get to Namibia.
In Africa, the Namibian Airline has direct flight in Zambia, Angola, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
The Nigerian businesses, lead by Executive Governor of Benue State Gabriel Suswam arrived in the country on Saturday.
The Nigerian business people are in Namibia to interact with potential partners in Namibia, as well as with senior Government officials on the investment and trade opportunity in the country.
Olorunfemi also announced that very soon the procession of Visa to Nigeria will only take less than 48 hours.
“It is strategic time to review our partnership and find the genuine partners with no colonialism and exploitation agenda. And Namibia and Nigeria are genuine partners of giants resources,” he said.
Meanwhile, Namibian High Commissioner to Nigeria Selma Ashipala-Musavyi called on Namibian businesses to coma and tap the business opportunity in Nigeria.
“We have to strengthen our economies and we have to trade among ourselves before we integrate in the globe,” she said.
“We want Namibia to have access to Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) market and Nigerians to penetrate in the Southern African development Community (SADC) market,” she said
The Nigerian delegation returns back on Wednesday.
