GOBABIS: Adult Learners’ Week was officially launched in the Omaheke Region yesterday, culminating in the official handing-over of the symbolic Adult Education Torch to representatives of the Regional Council here.
The torch was received by the Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Gariseb on behalf of Regional Governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua.
Leading the delegation which handed over the torch from the Omaheke education directorate was the Regional Director for Education, Natalia Goagoses, who paid tribute to adult learners whom she said have taken it upon themselves to prove that learning never stops.
Goagoses said through such efforts, Namibia is now celebrating two decades of the successful implementation of adult education and literacy programmes.
The torch will tour all 13 regions, ending at the Opuwo Sports Stadium in the Kunene Region, where the main celebration on International Literacy Day will be held on Saturday.
The torch came from the Hardap Region, and will be leaving for the Erongo Region today.
