KEETMANSHOOP: About 40 babies are dumped and foetuses flushed down toilets every month in the capital, the Executive Director of Women’s Action for Development (WAD) Veronica De Klerk said yesterday.
De Klerk said during the graduation ceremony of WAD’s southern centre held in Keetmanshoop that hardly a day goes by without reports in the media of killings of women, or the discovery of a new-born infant, unscrupulously dumped by its mother.
She stated that it is undoubtedly the parental home which has failed society in the upbringing of their sons and daughters.
De Klerk added that these crimes are being committed mostly by young people, and this is in contrast with the responsibility resting on their shoulders as the flag bearers of the future and leaders of tomorrow.
She said WAD, therefore, urgently appeals to Government to take the lead to launch a national campaign against all forms of crime as well as violence against women in the country.
