WINDHOEK: A total of 1 872 veterans were registered with the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs in 2012, bringing the total of registered veterans to 24 457.
The Minister of Veterans’ Affairs, Nickey Iyambo announced this during a briefing here today to inform the media and the public about the progress and achievement of his ministry over the past year.
Iyambo said the ministry also made progress in introducing a new veterans’ registration and payment system.
He said the ministry also provided financial support in the form of educational and training grants to 123 veterans and dependents of veterans, bringing the total number of recipients to 387.
Iyambo said his ministry has provided 126 veterans with funeral services, and about 18 veterans were counselled under the Psycho-social Counselling Programme.
The minister said they conducted medical and social health assessments on more than 1 000 veterans of which 600 underwent medical examinations.
