Launch of the Hydrogen Valley Feasibility Study Report

The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and its partners will host a webinar launch of the Hydrogen Valley Feasibility Study Report on Friday, 8 October 2021.

Commissioned by the DSI and its partners, Anglo American Platinum, Bambili Energy and Engie Energy Services SA, the study identifies nine hydrogen-related projects across the mobility, industrial and construction sectors that could be used as a springboard for the establishment of a South African hydrogen valley.

The proposed hydrogen valley will start near Mokopane in Limpopo, where platinum group metals are mined, extending through the industrial and commercial corridor to Johannesburg and leading finally to Durban.

The report supports the implementation of the National Hydrogen Society Roadmap, which was recently approved by Cabinet, as well as phase 3 of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.

The DSI’s Director-General, Dr Phil Mjwara, will deliver the keynote address, accompanied by Natascha Viljoen, CEO of Anglo American Platinum; Zanele Mavuso Mbatha, CEO of Bambili Energy; Caroline Hillegeer, Chief Commercial Officer: Green Hydrogen of Engie Energy Services SA; Mosa Tshabalala, Group CEO of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency; and Solly Kgopong, Head of the Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Department.
