Employment and Labour conducts three days blitz inspection in North West, 7 – 10 Dec

North West embarks on a three days’ blitz inspection around Brits

The Department of Employment and Labour’s Inspection and Enforcement Services unit in the North West will embark on a three days’ blitz inspection starting from 07 to 10 December 2021.

These blitz inspections will target different sectors such as Farming, Wholesale & Retail and Hospitality around the Brits area in the North West Province. Its main focus will be on checking compliance with the Labour Legislation such as adherence to COVID-19 regulations, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Act, Compensation Fund (CF) Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and the National Minimum Wage Act.

According to the Provincial Chief Inspector, Boikie Mampuru, December is one of the busiest months as there is an increased activity in the Hospitality and Wholesale & Retail sectors. It is therefore the Department’s duty to ensure these establishments are ready and prepared to receive the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Checking compliance with Labour Laws is our main mandate and it is standard. However, we are currently living in tough times and we have been warned about the onset of the fourth wave of COVID-19 pandemic. It is during festive and related periods that we experience a hype in the Wholesale & Retail, Hospitality and farming sectors, therefore we have to ensure that our workplaces are fully compliant lest they become hotspots and super spreaders,” said Mampuru.

During these inspections, non-compliance will not be tolerated and necessary measures will be taken against those who contravene the law.
